Ground school gps / pps
Scholarship Program Candidates must meet all established requirements laid down, including age, medical standards and Canadian Forces (CF) qualifying exam. Another important factor is motivation. Candidates must demonstrate a sincere interest in learning to fly and that they are prepared to commit to the demanding study time required to become a pilot. Recommendations will also consider the interest of the candidate in contributing as future pilots or instructors to the cadet flying programs. The objectives and requirements of students entering the scholarship program are as follows: Glider Scholarship Applicants Must be 16 years old by September 1st of the year the course is taken at Regional Gliding School Grade 9 or equivalent completed by nomination deadline Must have completed level three (3) training at Cadet unit (LHQ) by the end of the current training year Must pass the CF Qualifying Exam Must participate and pass all Performance Objective checks as set by LHQ training staff Must be physically fit and pass a Category three Ministry of Transport Medical Meet the physical limitations as follows: minimum: height 152.4 cm (no shoes/boots, socks only), weight 40.82 kg, and maximum: height 190.5 cm, weight 90.72 kg (200 lbs) Cadets who hold any Transport Canada pilot licence or permit are not eligible Power Scholarship Applicants Must be 17 years old by September 1st of the year the course is taken at Flight Training Unit and not be 19 before the end of the course, including travel time to return to their home Grade 10 or equivalent completed by nomination deadline Must have completed level four (4) training at Cadet unit (LHQ) by the end of the current training year Must pass the CF Qualifying Exam Must participate and pass all Performance Objective checks as set by LHQ training staff Must be physically fit and pass a Category three Ministry of Transport Medical The training aircraft used for the PPS impose certain physical limitations with respect to weight and size of the pilot. Therefore, the student pilot’s size must promote comfortable positioning in the cockpit with good visibility in all directions as well as being able to reach the controls for full movement. The maximum weight (in cadet PT gear, no shoes/boots, socks only) for a student pilot is 111.13 kg (245 lbs)

Cadets wishing to further his or her knowledge of aviation and apply for tech/flying summer courses can join Pilot Ground School.  The goal of Pilot Ground School is to provide cadets with the pre-requisite knowledge to become a glider or power pilot.  These are classes build on top of AND run outside of regular mandatory training. 

Attendance at Pilot Ground School is mandatory for application to Glider Pilot Scholarship (GPS), Power Pilot Scholarship (PPS), Aircraft Maintenance (AM), Airport Operations (AO) and Advanced Aerospace (AASC) and is only open to cadets aged 14 and up.
