Flying with Air Cadets
Flight Sergeant Jaimée Desharnais,
My perspective
Glider Pilot Scholarship 2015
This is an amazing opportunity to develop a love for flight, gain lots of good friend and gain a lot of knowledge. It is definitely not a relaxing course but very rewarding. You learn to find pleasure in the little things of the day such as the calmness of the sky, studying with friends that you have just made and once you are done the Transport Canada exam take time to reflect on all your accomplishment that you have done. You will also learn the value of team work because who wants to push a glider alone. I loved my summer there and wouldn’t change my experience for anything!
Manitoba Air Show June 2016
So one day I get this email from my CO in Brandon asking me if I would like to be one of the pilots in the air show. I was so excited!!!! I was going to fly a glider in the air show! As the day came closer I got very nervous but I was still flying every weekend possible that spring to keep up my skill and because I just loved flying. So the day before the airshow we cross-countried the two gliders to Portage La Prairie Southport airport. One was on display and the other was flown. To fly in front of so many people was a thrill but the moment I hopped in that glider nothing came to mind other then the stuff I had been taught. The flight was just like every other one I had done. The people had no clue who I was and I didn’t know who was watching me. I finished knowing that I had done one more flight and landed safely, everyone else had just been slightly more educated on what I do every weekend in the fall and spring.
Power Pilot Scholarship 2016
This summer I had the time of my life in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. I flew every day or so and got crammed full of knowledge. By the beginning of the second week I had soloed my first plane and one month after I got there I has going for my first solo cross country which consisted of 3.2 hours alone in a plane. This course is extremely mentally exhausting so learn to enjoy your sleep. I loved all of it to the long hours in the class room to the crazy hours in a plane. This course is so extreme because we are doing what other people do often in 6 months to a year but we accomplish it in 7 weeks. Also learn to enjoy the people around you because there is so few of you.
